Nd yag lasers

Nd:YAG Laser (Neodymium-doped Yttrium Aluminum Garnet) is a versatile and widely used laser in dermatology and aesthetic treatments. It comes in two main types:

1. Q-Switched Nd:YAG – short-pulsed (nanoseconds)

2. Long-Pulsed Nd:YAG – longer pulses (milliseconds)

Each has different applications depending on the pulse duration and wavelength (typically 1064 nm, and sometimes 532 nm for superficial lesions).

 Uses of Nd:YAG Laser (Q-Switched & Long-Pulsed):

 1. Pigmentation Removal

• Treats melasma, sun spots, age spots, freckles, and PIH

• Q-switched version breaks melanin into tiny particles

• 532 nm used for superficial pigmentation; 1064 nm for deeper pigmentation

 2. Tattoo Removal

• Effective on black, blue, and red ink tattoos

• Q-switched Nd:YAG at 1064 nm for dark inks; 532 nm for red/yellow/orange inks

 3. Skin Rejuvenation (Laser Toning)

• Improves skin tone, texture, and brightness

• Reduces fine lines, enlarged pores, and dullness

• Popular in “Hollywood laser peel” or “carbon laser facial”

 4. Hair Removal (Long-Pulsed Nd:YAG)

• Safe for darker skin types (Fitzpatrick IV–VI)

• Penetrates deeper to reach hair follicles with less melanin absorption in the epidermis

 5. Vascular Lesions

• Treats spider veins, telangiectasia, rosacea, and leg veins

• 1064 nm targets hemoglobin in blood vessels

 6. Acne and Acne Scars

• Reduces active acne by targeting sebaceous glands and acne-causing bacteria

• Also helps fade post-acne pigmentation

 7. Onychomycosis (Fungal Nail Infections)

• Penetrates the nail plate to kill fungal organisms

 8. Skin Tightening & Wrinkle Reduction

• Stimulates collagen with heat in the dermis (non-ablative skin tightening)
